34th
Annual Pontiac
National Convention
|
California here we come! Of course for the 34th annual POCI Pontiac Convention. Ontario is about 60 miles west of LAX airport but not a problem given the hundreds of miles of L.A. freeways. The Hurricane Chapter members (oh my gosh!) had to fly in from Miami. Unlike the 12-hour drive to Greenville last year for the POCI convention, 12 hours in the Firebird this time might have landed us on the Florida/Alabama border ...with still two-thirds of the USA to be crossed! At least our Boeing 737 had air-conditioning. The Ontario Convention center was HUGE and the adjacent Doubletree host hotel were a great place to gather and see old friends with the same Pontiac affliction. We even got to celebrate Jim Wangers' 80th birthday amongst some great WWII aircraft. Pontiac drag racing has become a POCI convention mainstay event. This year it was close by at "California Speedway", yes, the NASCAR track. It was hovering just over 100 degrees on this Friday afternoon and some drivers attributed low E.T.s to the heat - but it was a DRY heat!! Nothing, however, beats side-by-side Pontiacs in the 1/4 mile. There are about 300 pictures in this photo album. Most are 100kb with some at 300kb but no more. There is a large section devoted to "Pontiacs in the Parking Lot" showcasing how great our Ponchos are when no one is looking and without all the show-day hub-bub. We hope to see you at the 35th convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma - second week of July 2006.
